Aden Bare Duale is one of Kenya's most prominent Somali politicians and arguably the highest-ranking Kenyan Somali in national government. Born 15 June 1969 in Garissa County, Duale has held multiple cabinet-level positions and represents the significant political advancement of the Ogaden clan within Kenya's national system, though his career also reflects the complexities and challenges of Somali political integration.
Early Career
Duale trained as a teacher and worked in education before entering politics. He brought this background to his political career, emphasizing development and education in Garissa County. He established a reputation as a constituency mobilizer and advocate for his region.
Parliamentary Career
Duale was elected Member of Parliament for Garissa Township, a position he held for three consecutive terms, making him one of Kenya's longest-serving Somali MPs. National Assembly Leadership

Cabinet Positions

Duale's appointment represented significant trust in a Somali leader with security matters, historically an area where the state has been suspicious of Somali Kenyans. However, his tenure was marked by controversy. He was dismissed on 11 July 2024, then reinstated on 19 July 2024 in a different ministry role.
