Infrastructure development in Isiolo reflects its pivotal role linking central Kenya with northern regions. The A109 highway, connecting Nairobi to Isiolo and historically serving as the main tarmac access route to the north, shaped settlement and trade patterns. The road's condition and maintenance directly affect regional commerce and connectivity.

Water infrastructure remains critical for a semi-arid county. Boreholes, shallow wells, and the Ewaso Nyiro River provide the water supply for human consumption, livestock, and agricultural irrigation. Water availability limits settlement expansion and pastoral movement patterns.

Electricity access, historically limited, expanded through national grid extension and diesel generators in Isiolo town. Solar power installations have increased, particularly for household use in remote areas.

Telecommunications infrastructure, including mobile networks and internet services, reached Isiolo progressively from the 2000s onward. These services transformed business, education, and governance.

The LAPSSET Corridor project represents the most significant infrastructure initiative. Plans include a new highway from Isiolo to ports in Lamu, a standard gauge railway, a pipeline for petroleum products, and airport infrastructure. Implementation since 2015 has brought significant changes and real estate speculation to Isiolo town.

Isiolo County Government manages local roads through the Roads Board, though funding constraints limit maintenance and expansion capacity.
