The Luo and Kikuyu alliance built Kenya's independence movement. Tom Mboya and Jomo Kenyatta worked together, Oginga Odinga and Kenyatta governed together. Then it fractured. Mboya was assassinated in 1969, Odinga was sidelined, and the Kikuyu elite consolidated power. The pattern repeats: coalition before elections, rupture after. Kibaki and Raila, Uhuru and Raila. Every alliance promised transformation. Every rupture deepened the divide. The relationship is Kenya's central political fact, and neither side has found a way past it.
