Athletics Kenya has experienced repeated scandals involving financial mismanagement, election disputes, and corruption at the federation leadership level. Presidential elections have been contested with allegations of ballot manipulation. Funds intended for athlete development have been diverted through opaque contracts and patronage arrangements. These governance failures have undermined Kenya's international athletics reputation and prompted World Athletics to demand structural reforms.
Corruption at AK has not prevented athlete success (athletes develop through independent training camps and agent systems), but it has weakened institutional legitimacy and created systemic vulnerabilities.
