Water scarcity represents a significant challenge despite Embu's generally favorable rainfall. Piped water systems in towns provide supply to urban residents, though water shortages occur periodically. Healthcare Facilities
Embu County has expanded health facility networks including primary health centers, dispensaries, and the referral hospital. Embu Teaching and Referral Hospital serves as the highest-level facility. Mobile phone networks provide coverage to most of Embu County, enabling communications and digital services. Internet connectivity through mobile networks has expanded, though broadband access remains limited outside towns. Transportation and Logistics
Embu town has expanded as a trade hub with wholesale markets, transportation terminals, and logistics services. Regular long-distance bus services connect Embu to Nairobi and other regions, facilitating commerce and personal travel. This transportation infrastructure supports economic activity.
Challenges and Gaps
Infrastructure development has been uneven, with urban areas better served than remote rural areas. Infrastructure maintenance remains challenging, with some facilities deteriorating after construction. Climate change threatens water systems in drier areas, requiring ongoing adaptation investment.
