Trans-Nzoia County has developed road and communication infrastructure supporting agricultural commerce and regional connectivity. The county is served by the main highway connecting Kisumu to the Uganda border at Busia and Malaba, passing through Kitale. Regional roads link Kitale to Eldoret, Kisii, and other regional centers. Rural roads provide access from trading centers to farm areas, though many remain unpaved and impassable during rainy seasons. Road maintenance is managed by national and county government agencies, though funding constraints limit maintenance capacity. The road network enables agricultural product transport, market access, and passenger movement.

Telecommunications and Service Infrastructure

Mobile phone coverage is extensive across the county, with networks provided by major service operators including Safaricom, Airtel, and others. Fixed-line telephone services are limited to towns and commercial centers. Internet connectivity exists in Kitale and major trading centers, with broadband expansion progressing. Banks and financial institutions operate in Kitale and some larger towns, providing credit and deposit services to farmers and businesses. The county hospital in Kitale provides tertiary medical care, with health centers and dispensaries distributed across wards. Water supply systems provide piped water in Kitale and some towns, with hand-dug wells and boreholes common in rural areas.

Agricultural Infrastructure

The NCPB grain storage silos at Kitale represent major agricultural infrastructure for cereal marketing. Cooperative union buildings serve as collection points for agricultural products. Markets (Kitale central market and ward markets) provide venues for agricultural trade. Agricultural extension offices are distributed across the county, providing technical services. Electricity is available in Kitale and some towns, with rural electrification expanding. Storage facilities for agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizer) operate at commercial scale. Rural electrification enables agro-processing activities and reduced post-harvest losses in agricultural chains.
