Nandi Infrastructure

Nandi County's infrastructure has developed around supporting agricultural production, serving growing populations, and increasingly, accommodating running tourism and athletic development. The region features an extensive road network connecting towns, agricultural areas, and rural settlements, with the main highway linking Kapsabet to surrounding urban centres. Many rural roads remain unpaved or poorly maintained, though road upgrading continues as development priorities.

Water infrastructure includes piped water systems serving urban areas and some rural settlements, though rural areas often depend on springs, streams, and boreholes for water supply. The county has invested in water harvesting and storage infrastructure to address seasonal water scarcity in some areas. Electricity infrastructure has expanded since devolution, though rural areas still experience irregular access. Telecommunications networks provide mobile phone coverage to most populated areas, enabling communication and mobile money services. Running-related infrastructure has expanded significantly in recent years, including training camps, athletics facilities, and accommodation infrastructure serving visiting athletes. County government has invested in institutional infrastructure including government offices, schools, health facilities, and markets. Tea estate infrastructure from the colonial period remains in use, including roads, water systems, and worker housing. Infrastructure maintenance and expansion remain ongoing development priorities, with challenges including limited resources and competing demands.
